Abstract

Indonesia is a country crossed by the equator, has a tropical climate, and has a very high diversity of flora and fauna. Indonesia, located between two oceans, namely the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, is an archipelago with the highest biodiversity level after Brazil and ranks first in Asia. To date, the number of freshwater fish species in Indonesia has reached around 1300 species, which is almost 44% of the total fish in Southeast Asia. One of them is the Indonesian Leaffish (Pristolepis grooti). This study aims to identify and as the first record of Pristolepis grooti on Bangka Island. Sampling of this Shoefish was carried out in August 202 in the Bumang River, Kemuja Village, Mendo Barat District, Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Indonesia. Pristolepis grooti is generally found in most of Asia in saturated waters with slow water flow, such as in swamps, rivers, and lakes. The body of P. grooti from Bangka Island is bright yellow to brownish, flat and slightly convex, pelvic fins do not reach the anal opening, scales on the cheeks, a rounded tail shape and a terminal mouth shape, and a complete lateral line (LL) broken. The distribution of P. grooti has only been recorded in Sumatra, Kalimantan, the Malay Peninsula, and Malaysia, and for the first time on Bangka Island, Bangka Belitung Islands, Indonesia.
