Abstract

The Maro River in Merauke is one of the rivers that stores a wealth of fish resources. The purpose of the study was to determine the abundance of fish species in the estuary of the Maro River, Karang Indah Village, Merauke, Papua. Sampling is carried out for three months, February - April 2018. The method used is survey. Data analysis included species richness, relative abundance (Kr) and density (Fi). The results of the study obtained 18 species of fish grouped in 9 orders, 17 families and 18 genera. The highest catch is found at Station III, which is 17 types. The most abundant or abundant fish is the type of glass (Kurtus gulliveri) with its relative abundance value of 23.08% and spread evenly to the three stations. There are 8 types of fish that have high cohesiveness (100%), namely Cinetodus crassilabris, Cinetodus froggatti, Lates calcarifer, Polydactylus plebeius, Selenoboca papuensis, Lebtobrama sp., Kurtus gulliveri, Thryssa scratchleyi. These eight types of fish have a wide distribution area. Types that have low cohesiveness are Datnioides campbelli, Plotosus canus, and Scatopargus argus.
