Analysis of Ammonia, Nitrate, and Phosphate Content in the Waters of Merbau, South Bangka Regency
Abstract
The waters of Merbau are one of the areas being developed for the potential of marine fisheries in South Bangka Regency. As it develops, the Merbau waters have been utilized by the local community for various activities in the fisheries sector, such as shrimp farming and tourism, which are feared to impact water quality. This study aims to compare the ammonia, nitrate, and phosphate content with the seawater quality standards stipulated in Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021 and to assess the water quality status in the Merbau waters of South Bangka Regency based on the Pollution Index (IP) method. The study was conducted in July in the waters of Merbau, South Bangka Regency. The method used for determining sampling locations was purposive sampling. The results showed that the ammonia and nitrate content in the waters of Merbau, South Bangka Regency, still met the seawater quality standards based on Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021, while phosphate exceeded the set seawater quality standards. The water quality status in the Merbau waters, using the Pollution Index (IP) method, was found to range from 4.22 to 4.57, indicating a category of lightly polluted.
