Potential For Coral Reef Recovery Assessed Using The Coral Reef Health Index In The Ketugar Marine Protected Area, Central Bangka Regency

Assessing coral reef recovery potential requires consideration of both benthic and fish indicators. This study aimed to describe benthic condition, target fish biomass, and the Coral Reef Health Index (IKTK) at four stations in the Ketugar Waters, Central Bangka Regency. Live coral cover ranged from 38.80% to 68.16%, with an average of 59.24%, while target fish biomass ranged from 67.79 to 443.50 kg/ha. The highest biomass was recorded at Station 3 and was primarily contributed by Diagramma pictum. Live coral cover was classified as high at all stations, benthic recovery potential was classified as low at Station 1 and high at Stations 2–4, while target fish biomass was classified as low at all stations. The IKTK scores were 4 at Station 1 and 6 at Stations 2–4, with an average of 5.5. Compared with Pulau Gelasa, Ketugar had a descriptively higher average live coral cover and a higher range of target fish biomass, but both locations had the same average IKTK score. These findings indicate that benthic condition and fish biomass may provide different perspectives on ecological status. The results reflect conditions at the time of observation and do not demonstrate ecological recovery over time. Repeated monitoring is therefore necessary to assess changes in coral reef condition.
