SIMULASI ALIRAN PADA TURBOSAIL MENGGUNAKAN MODEL RANS - SCALABLE WALL FUNCTION

Abstract

Turbosail is a cylinder that is placed in the middle of a ship that serves to increase the lift of the ship so that it can reduce fuel use. Just like the workings of screens and turbines, the turbosail uses wind propulsion as its energy source. In this study a turbosail with an ovoid shape was simluated which added a tail to the rear to reduce drag. To find out the performance of the turbosail, a simulation was performed using RANS (Reynolds Average Navier Stokes) with a Scalable Wall Function simulation model. Geometry and meshing are built with the Salome software. Simulation calculations are run using the Code Saturne program, while graph presentation uses the Paraview and Python programs. Simulation results show that the ovoid shape and placement of the tail on the back of the turbosail can increase the CL value and reduce the value of the CD. The CL value for Reynold 104 is 1.45 and the CD value is 0.58. whereas for Reynold number 105 the CL value is 1.47 and the CD value is 0.71.
