Despite being produced in relatively considerable quantities by industry, oil palm fibers waste is still seldom applied. One alternative use of oil palm fibers is as cellulose which is applied as a hydrogel. To ascertain the characteristics of the cellulose hydrogel of oilm palm fibers, we synthesized a cellulose/CMC cross-linked citrate hydrogel. In this paper, we confirmed the isolated cellulose from oilm palm fibers waste is up to 39.83% and the characteristics of the synthesized hydrogel are smooth surface morphology with swelling percentage of about 300%. Therefore, we hope that the hydrogel of cellulose/CMC cross-linked citrate can be a product as a solution of the oil palm fibers waste in industry.
