Peer Review Process

Journal of Tropical Marine Science (JTMS) applies a double-blind peer review system to ensure objectivity and scientific quality. In this system, both authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the review process.

Review Process Stages

  1. Initial Screening (Desk Evaluation)
Submitted manuscripts are evaluated by the editor to ensure alignment with the journal’s scope, basic writing quality, and completeness of submission (including template and plagiarism report).
Manuscripts failing to meet requirements may be rejected at this stage (desk rejection).
  2. Plagiarism Screening
All manuscripts are checked using plagiarism detection software. The maximum similarity index is 20%. Manuscripts exceeding this threshold will be returned or rejected.
  3. Editor Assignment
Manuscripts passing the initial screening are assigned to an editor with relevant expertise.
  4. Reviewer Selection
At least two independent reviewers are selected based on their expertise.
  5. Double-Blind Review
Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on:
    • Novelty
    • Scientific significance
    • Methodological rigor
    • Clarity of analysis and discussion
    • Relevance to marine science
  6. Reviewer Recommendations
Reviewers provide one of the following decisions:
    • Accept
    • Minor Revision
    • Major Revision
    • Reject
  7. Editorial Decision
The editor makes the final decision based on reviewer comments. Additional reviewers may be assigned if necessary.
  8. Revision Stage
Authors are required to revise the manuscript according to reviewer feedback within a specified timeframe. Multiple revision rounds may occur.
  9. Final Decision
Once revisions are satisfactory, the editor issues the final decision.
  10. Copyediting and Proofreading
Accepted manuscripts undergo language editing and formatting prior to publication.

Processing Time
